The blue veins that are often seen on our hands are a system of superficial veins located under the skin of the hand. When impacted by something, the blue veins will appear clearly. Though this may be a completely normal condition, in many cases, blue veins on the hands are a sign of some diseases.

1. What are the causes of blue veins?

I will share more specifically about the natural causes and pathological causes of blue veins on the hands below:

Many cases of blue veins appearing on the hands are often worried and scared. Yet, they can come from natural impacts and do not affect too much, specifically like this:

Pale skin color also causes blue veins: White skin, thin skin are both reasons why you have blue veins but I do not. From clear comparisons, it can be seen that people with dark skin do not have blue veins as clearly as people with white skin. In other cases, blue veins are more prominent when the layer of fat under the skin of the hand is thinner. Those with this condition are often elderly.

Being too thin also leads to explain this condition. The layer of fat under the skin is too thin, making it impossible to cover the blue veins, making the skin more visible and numerous.

Athletes or those who do heavy labor often have hands with more blue veins than others, as they often have to work hard. As the blood vessels are active, the muscles swell, and the veins in the skin will appear. However, they will gradually subside when the activity stops.

Pregnant women also often experience blue veins on their hands, since the venous system under the skin has to work harder than usual.

2. The condition of blue veins on the hands due to pathological factors:

The venous system under the skin is distributed abundantly and densely. However, as you notice that blue veins are concentrated too much on the back of the hand (both large and creating many narrow lines), this may be a sign of varicose veins.

Normally, it will be very difficult for you to feel the symptoms of varicose veins on the hands. If there are any, it will only be a dull, tense or transient pain at the point of varicose veins. Therefore, one of the most obvious signs to recognize this condition is the presence of veins on the hands. Specifically, the veins are zigzag and many times larger than normal.

However, in fact, it is not until the disease becomes more severe that the hands begin to show these symptoms. The most common complications are pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, thrombosis, and stroke. So the best way is to go to hospitals for examination to get the best solution.

3. How to improve the condition of blue veins on the skin:

If the doctors determine that the blue veins on the hands are due to varicose veins, you need to intervene to treat the disease with medical measures.

Blue veins are formed because of direct relationship with varicose veins

If the disease is still mild, you can combine sports, exercise, use medical stockings to treat varicose veins and change your diet appropriately.

In cases of long-term disease, skin ulcers, dermatitis, and even the risk of death, the following specific methods are indicated:

Doctors will directly treat the tip by using radio wave laser energy or sclerosing agents in order to sclerose varicose veins. This treatment method is commonly called digital vein treatment. Even though it can help reduce the condition of blue veins quickly, this is a quick treatment method so it is very likely to recur.

To help remove varicose veins, other common measures are Muller or Stripping surgery. These are popular surgical methods that can promptly treat varicose veins and prominent veins in the hands. However, like sclerotherapy, this surgery only helps to treat the immediate symptoms, and the condition is likely to recur.

The methods we mentioned above are often applied to patients with long-term blue veins on the hands and complications. However, it is best to go to the doctor when you notice pain in the area of the skin with varicose veins.
