12 True Stories That Grow More Twisted the Closer You Look

Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. This collection contains actual stories that will send chills down your spine. At first sight, they appear to be typical stories, but the deeper you go, the more twisted and unpleasant they become. From scary coincidences to unexplainable incidents, these stories will make you wonder what’s true—and what lies under the surface.

Story 1
I was out on an abroad business trip. On the third day, I received a text from my wife requesting me to return immediately since our son had an accident. “I didn’t send you a text!” my wife said when I arrived. I showed her my phone. Her color altered. She replied, “I didn’t text you! I decided our son is fine.”

But the SMS was there, sent from her phone number. She turned to face me, her voice wavering. “I didn’t send that. I was planning to surprise you on your trip because I found out I was pregnant the day you left. But then I changed my mind—I started feeling nauseous.”

A flood of happiness washed over me at the prospect of being a father again, but it was soon replaced by an uncomfortable feeling. Neither of us could articulate the message. Then we both became pale. There was another message that warned, “Be careful. Your boy isn’t well.”

We tried to figure out who might have sent the SMS but soon gave up, figuring my phone had been compromised. These were the only two unusual messages we had received, so we decided to move on.

Months later, my wife experienced an unexpected miscarriage… We lost a baby boy. It’s been ten years, and I still get chills thinking about it.

Story 3

I informed work that I would be out of town for a week to attend a family member’s funeral (my grandmother’s cousin in Texas). Completely imaginary. In actuality, all I wanted was some time off to relax at my friend’s luxury property, which included a hot tub and a full bar.The day my “vacation” began, I received word that my grandmother’s cousin had d.i.e.d, and my family was traveling out of town for the funeral, expecting me to accompany them.

Story 4

After I totaled my car, a man with burn scars on his face and hands approached my window. He asked whether I was okay before sitting in the passenger seat. He went on: “I need you to know that everything happens for a reason.” I replied, “I know.”

The next thing I know, I’m talking to the other driver and the cops, and the guy is gone. Nobody else saw him.

Story 6

Story 7

My mother was browsing through an old photo book and talked about a party she had for her coworkers over 25 years ago. She appreciated my assistance in setting up the tables, among other things.

I had no memories of the party, so I assumed she was joking. Then she showed me the photos, and I was there! It wasn’t like I was a youngster; I was maybe 19 or 20.

I’m wondering what else my brain erased.

Story 8

I snuck downstairs in seventh grade because I couldn’t sleep. I stood in the kitchen for approximately ten minutes, watching my father watch Star Trek. When it went to commercial, I went back upstairs and discovered the garage light had turned on. I went outside and saw my father sorting recyclables. When I returned, there was no one there, and the television was turned off.

I’m 32 now, and I’m still thinking about it.

Story 9

Story 10

I was at a gas station and had just finished my purchase inside. When I got out, a big man in a T-shirt with a meat business logo approached me and asked if I wanted to buy bulk frozen meats. I was completely broke, except for roughly $500 on my credit card. I didn’t want to buy anything, but my tongue said “yes” like my life depended on it.

A few minutes later, I was home with a month’s supply of vacuum-sealed fish and chicken. I’m not sure what said “yes,” but it was not me.
